I blame most of that "better than f10" feeling to the fact that the important parts got really noticeable performance improvements (starts up really quickly, partly due to KMS and ommision of certain services, Firefox's javascript engine got a JIT compiler and ext4 write performance is far beyond ext3's for desktop (well, ext4 was in f10 already)).
Also, it seems to me that clean installations are much more slick than desktops that has been in use (and being updated) for a while due to practically zero filesystem fragmentation. |
