What is AppArmor?

I just read this story:

It makes me sad that this story contains more information about AppArmor than anything else I've seen yet (I did a fair amount of looking when back when this was first announced). I want to know what AppArmor really is, but I've yet to find any real technical documentation. If you have any pointers to some non sales presentations or whitepapers, I would appreciate it.
