I have really liked the format has it has been for the past month or so (since I started reading it). I think having the brief summary of the past week's Red Hat and Fedora updates is also useful.
"Comment on the various updates and flaws that deserve comment" sounds like an excellent idea. If a bug is not interesting for you, it's probably not interesting to many people (that do not visit security-related websites anyway).
Ideally, I think, you might have a story to tell us about an update, but that's probably hard to come by without a lot of research. One way or the other, keep it up!
Fedora Weekly News is coming inside of the Fedora Project, to be produced weekly by a team of writers and editors. Coincidentally, the issue release schedule closely matches yours (ever Sunday, late.)
Are you interested in being the security beat lead for FWN? I don't think it's any different that what you are doing, except: You share the column early (or deliver it early enough) to get incorporated into the FWN issue You accept help (other content) related to security issues, which come in via the Wiki and other news@ sources. This is more of an editorial role, approving or removing content by relevancy, clarity, usefulness, etc. It might be the start of a great thing.
